Broken-brained

I've got another doctor's appointment tomorrow. Its been a week but I feel like I haven't been in a month.

I still have to find a physical therapist. I don't know how I'm going to do it. I guess I start calling around? Dana Farber suggested I call my insurance company, but I imagine them being unhelpful.

It was suggested to me today that I look into getting an occupational therapist. Basically, this is the person you'd turn to if you had a head injury. I know I'm not dealing with actual brain damage, but I'm not operating correctly either. I had to count out 7 plus 5 on my hand the other day because it's not "THERE" in my brain catalog anymore. I'm kind of anxious about it too. I'm thinking maybe I should go to the store and buy books of brain teasers. Or those workbooks for six-year olds learning math.

For the record, I know NOW that 7 plus 5 is 12. Phew.

Hi Jen! I hope your MD appt. goes well today! As for finding PT, usually the office of the MD who wrote the script will give you a list of therapists in the area that they use/recommend. The insurance companies also have a list of covered providers which might be helpful. It would stink to find someone just to learn that your insurance doesn't cover that provider. . .

There used to be a place in Mansfield Center years ago that was pretty good; both my sister and Dad went there. The local hospitals have outpatient PT departments as well so they may be worth a phone call, too. Finally, I really liked where I went for PT after the knee surgery many moons ago. I was referred to that PT office by the orthopedist. You could try calling their office to see if they could give you the name of a good PT office. It's ProSports Orthopedics (in Dedham, Brookline, and Waltham - it would be a bit of a drive; finding something closer may be better for you.) Their phone number is 781.326.7108. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the affiliated PT office.

Good luck with your search and we will be thinking of you at your appointment today! Love,Kelly

Good morning! Your insurance company probably has a web site which lists therapists that take your insurance. I have BC/BS and their web site lists specialists and their contact information.

And there are times that I secretly use my fingers to count. Too tired to use the noggin some days... :-)

Jen,
Call Hank Toz - he is ProSports, and he can most likely give you some PT referrals!
Glad to hear you're feeling better every day!
And don't worry about using your fingers to count, I'm the CFO and I always use mine and sometimes my toes, too!!
